Whilst Stretcher Bond is the traditional laying pattern for brickwork, there are a variety
of other bonds and finishes that can be used to create different effects and significantly
impact the appearance of the finished brick home.

ENGLISH  BOND
Alternate courses are composed of
stretchers (the length of a brick) or
header (the end of a brick).

FLEMISH BOND
In each course (row of bricks) the bricks
are laid alternately stretcher and header.
The header is positioned above the centre
of the stretcher below.

STRETCHER/RUNNING BOND
This is the standard brick lay where
the bricks are laid lengthwise and the
overlap on the course below is exactly
half the brick.

STACKED BOND
The stacked bond features bricks stacked
one above the other so they are aligned
vertically.

DOG TOOTHING

Using the brick corners as a feature.

QUONING
Using alternate brick sizes and/or colours to
create a feature of the external corners of the
building.

SOLDERING
Bricks are laid vertically.

CORBELLING
Corbelled bricks are either proud or indented
from the remaining.

BANDING
The use of a different type/colour of brick to create a band in contrast to the background.
